Upon the quiet watch he stood, A sentinel in thought's reprieve, Where sagebrush rolls and mountains brood, A moment's levy, hearts perceive. In echoed halls, the scholars tread, Unseen the shield at rest laid down, A respite from the oath he's wed, The campus whispers through the gown.
